Adam and Eve

Creator

JM David Remy

Title

Adam and Eve

Date

n.d.

Description

Cut and hammered recycled steel oil-drum

The birds and plants in Remy’s natural landscapes are the same kinds found in this scene of Adam & Eve. Eve, here, has a slight baby bump and there are examples in the metalwork of Murat Brierre that depict a baby in utero. This approach of depicting figures below an arching and bending fruiting tree replete with tropical birds or other wildlife can be found in many Haitian metal cuts. Sometimes the foliage twirls about in beautiful sprawling patterns that stress the presence of a creator, of an artist. Sometimes the vegetation reaches out, suggesting there is light beyond what the metal story can contain.
