Description
Kahn has been credited with the development of color lithography for fine art. Before his contribution, the method was used exclusively for commercial use. Kahn's manipulation of the process allowed artists to create larger-scale works while exploring the possibilities of mark-making beyond scientific and technical illustration. The introduction of color also allowed fine art lithographers to experiment with its expressive potential. His work is a perfect example of figuration pushing the boundaries of traditional portrayal, asking the viewer to question each character's psychological state. The accompanying image is a stylized self-portrait of the artist, symbolizing his obsession with the print-making process.
