Victory Bell

Blue Key Victory Bell

The rivalry between Indiana State University and Ball State is a long one and developed an important tradition within ISU football history, the Victory Bell.  Started in 1940, the Ball State and Indiana State Blue Key societies co-sponsored a repurposed farm dinner bell to be the Blue Key Victory Bell.  The winning teams right to display the Victory Bell for a year became an important tradition, so much so that the ISU and Ball State games played at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis for several years in the late 1980s.

Though the rivalry over the Victory Bell has not been consistent since it started in 1940, the bell went "missing" for several years in the 1960s, the Victory Bell game has been played forty-nine times between 1940-1991.
