During the 1920s to the 1940s, the number of student social groups not only expanded, but the competitions, dances, and events now associated with student groups became regular occurrences.  Student organizations moved away from their previous affiliations with national groups like the YWCA, to become more ISU focused social organizations.  During these three decades it was not uncommon for student organizations to take part in Homecoming activities by making floats for the blue and white parade or to host dances and other events.  ISU student groups were no longer societies focused solely on debating, literature, or national concerns like temperance, the blossoming social groups of the era created and took part in a host of social activities.
